Visualizing Swarm Object Storage Status with Prometheus & Grafana

Swarm 10.2 (available on Caringo Connect for existing customers) brought us the Prometheus Node Exporter (Prometheus is a popular open-source monitoring solution). The Node Exporter allows you to export Swarm-specific metrics and visualize them with platforms like Grafana—an open-source metrics visualization platform.

Swarm Pro Tip: Maintenance Mode

Swarm storage will recognize a graceful shutdown performed by the storage administrator. This mode is called “Maintenance” and is displayed as such in the Swarm UI. A graceful shutdown tells the cluster to hold off on performing recovery operations since the server in question is expected to return to cluster use soon. This prevents kickoff of expensive recovery and cleanup operations when they aren’t needed. The grace period is held for three hours, after which Swarm will automatically resume necessary recovery procedures.
