Leading Worldwide Supplier of Outsource Production Solutions uses Swarm Cloud & Object Storage Platform for Content Distribution Network
AUSTIN, Texas, December 14, 2016 — Caringo today announced that NEP, a leading worldwide provider of outsourced solutions to the broadcast and live event industries, has designed and deployed a scalable, reliable, high-performance Content Distribution Network (CDN) in the Netherlands using the Caringo Swarm Cloud and Object Storage platform.
From the Oscars to the Olympics, NEP provides the technology, the people and the know-how that enables clients to produce the world’s biggest live and broadcast events around the globe. NEP’s team of more than 2,000 employees is driven by passion and a focus on technical innovation, and together they have supported productions in over 65 countries on all seven continents.
With a major shift in the Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry towards digital content production and consumption, NEP The Netherlands developed its CDN using Caringo Swarm. This network now serves more than 650,000 user accounts accessed with different consumption methods, ranging from monthly subscriptions to pay-per-view. Requiring a comprehensive platform that could provide scalability to its CDN and meet requirements in terms of capacity, cost, throughput, growth and reliability, coupled with full hardware independence, Caringo Swarm was selected after a long evaluation process that included several vendors.
“We chose Caringo Swarm because it was the most flexible platform for us and had good per terabyte licensing,” said Gerbrand de Ridder, Head of R&D and Lead System Architect of NEP The Netherlands. “We started with 100 TBs and now have over 1.25 PBs across 200 nodes from different hardware vendors. Caringo Swarm is a key component to deliver that high-end quality service that NEP has always aimed for.”
Offered as a complete software or hardware appliance, Swarm provides a storage platform for data protection, management, organization and search at massive scale. Users no longer need to migrate data into disparate solutions for content delivery, ongoing analysis and data protection.
“We are proud to have one of the world’s largest and most innovative solutions providers in the live and broadcast event space as a customer,” said Adrian Herrera, Caringo VP of Marketing. “We are committed to providing cost-effective solutions for long-term preservation and delivery of content in an easy-to-manage solution designed to meet the needs of today’s digital and distributed workflows in the M&E space.”
