Technology PioneersThis week, I will be at IP Expo in London, a show devoted to those looking for the latest IT innovations that can drive their business forward. I am pleased to be presenting the Protect from Data Loss and Streamline Backups session with Data Deposit Box President Troy Cheeseman on Wednesday, October 7 at 1:40 PM in the Backup and Recovery Theatre. My Caringo colleagues and I will also be sharing Expo Stand #MM21 with Data Deposit Box—a company with which we happen to share a few commonalities.

Founded within a few years of each other, both companies were pioneers in their areas. Entering the market in 2002, Data Deposit Box’s cloud backup technology set a new industry standard by providing small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with the same level of security and protection available to large enterprises, offering scalability, advanced data reduction capabilities and ease-of-use. Fast forward three years, and Caringo is hard at work developing software-defined object storage to provide simple, bulletproof, limitless storage.

In 2013, Data Deposit Box landed an OEM deal that had the potential to increase its users and capacity by orders of magnitude in a very short period of time. With the clock ticking, Troy Cheeseman, President of DDB, and his team started looking for solutions to help them efficiently and cost effectively handle this growth. The answer: Caringo Swarm on Dell servers behind Data Deposit Box’s proprietary backup and recovery software for PCs, servers and mobile devices. Reducing the data center footprint by 82% and monthly operating expense (OPEX) by $50,000 USD, this solution only needed 1 System Administrator to manage multiple petabytes. Read the full case study or the press release for more details about how Caringo Swarm streamlined the backend storage for Data Deposit Box’s cloud offering.

In a recent blog (Object Storage for the Cloud Age), Caringo’s VP of Engineering, Russell Turpin, discussed the need for pure object storage solutions in providing the scale and compliance features required by enterprise organizations. If you are at IP Expo this week, please attend our presentation and stop by to see us in the expo. I’d love to hear about your challenges and answer any questions you might have about software-defined storage and how Caringo can enable you to come into the cloud age.
