Replication and Erasure Coding Explained
Feb 2013 | 10 pages
Abstract: Unlike what most storage vendors will try to make you believe, data loss in storage systems is unavoidable. It’s right up there with death and taxes in that respect. Luckily enough, by selecting the right solutions and applying the appropriate parameters, we can control to a large extent both the probability of data loss happening, as well as the size of the data loss when it actually does happen. Providing a qualitative, straightforward view into the specifics of this process as related to the Caringo object storage software, specifically CAStor, is the purpose of this paper.Register to download

Object Storage Throughput and Resource Utilization on Standard Hardware
Aug 2012 | 3 pages
Abstract: This paper summarizes the results of a recent performance test of the Caringo Object Storage Platform powered by CAStor. The goal was to demonstrate throughput and resource utilization of standard x86 servers with 7,200 rpm SATA drives using off the shelf scripts and monitoring tools.Register to download

Protect Your Data from RAID
July 2011 | 18 pages
Abstract: This paper presents why RAID increases risk of data loss, impacts I/O performance, is expensive to upgrade, is slow to rebuild and doesn't always utilize capacity efficiently. A solution using replication vs RAID is presented. Register to download

The Green Genes of CAStor
March 2008 | 5 pages
Abstract: Caringo designed CAStor for this new era where power and cooling are now major defining characteristics of any storage solution. This paper demonstrates how the same architectural foundation that makes CAStor economically cost effective also makes it naturally green. White Paper (PDF)

Content Storage for a New Millennium
March 2008 | 9 pages
CAStor enables customers to implement high-performance clustered storage at any scale and take advantage of inexpensive commodity servers. The simplicity inherent in CAStor's cluster design further reduces overall operating costs with self-managing, self-healing and self-configuring features. White Paper (PDF)
